Update and Trades

Hey everyone, Just an update and reminder that the trade season is open.  So far we have an extra $30 in the prize pot thanks to trades.  I've made the most recent trade getting rid of Ovechkin and welcoming Giroux to the Hodgson clan.

Bob continues to lead the pool, and Ted and I complain about it on a daily basis at work.

Thanks to Paul who sent me his money through e-mail transfer....I was reluctant to accept it at first because for all I know it could have been some elaborate scam, but so far it seems to be on the up and up -so if you still owe money and want to transfer it that way go ahead.

The early bird prize for leading the pool by December 1st is approaching (so I have some ground to gain this week), and whoever wins that will get $16 -a pretty tidy sum if I do say so myself...that's eight cans of Tuborg Gold (pricing leak for non-BRI employees).

Here are a list of the trades, and remember to check out the blog for any other stats or updates.

Thanks,

-Tyler B.

The Trade Market has opened!

Hey everyone,

The trade season has opened and I thought I should let you know about it incase you want to improve/disrupt your teams.

Remember, you have until the all-star game...which is some time in January to make your trades so don't panic and make them all right now....unless you want to.

Also, remember to refer to the trade value sheets that I posted earlier on this (the) blog.  Most trades cost $5, and the marquee boxes cost $10.

So, because a couple of people were keen on the pool calendar I have a couple of trades to announce.

Bob (ZdenoChara...) has traded Andy MacDonald for Valtteri Filppula.

Ted (Ted's Team) has traded Steve Downie for Scott Hartnall, and Andy MacDonald for Valtteri Filppula.

I have not made any trades yet because I'm indecisive.

These trades have raised the pool pot by $15 for the eventual winner.  If you're team is struggling then this might be an option for you -but way to go if you win and don't make any trades.

Any questions please let me know.

Thanks,

-Tyler B.

Weekly Wrap Up

Another week has passed, and it's another week where I am not in first place....but that's okay...I'm just sitting back and strategizing...and yelling at the NHL Network. Just kidding, I've been yelling at Ted, some Asian guy, and TSN as well.

Well, Jagr is back -salute and all...which is great, if you took him (Darren)...and are not a member of the Maple Leaf's defense.

That said, the Maple Leafs are the best team in Canada right now...which is odd...but great.  And good news for people who took Phil Kessel (Paul) or Lupul (Bob, Todd, Dan, Adam, Jason).

Another big week for Bob, leading all teams with 38 points, followed by Todd and Darren with 34, and 32.  Darren has done this with five injured players, and Todd with 4.

The guys at the bottom are not too far out of reach with 30 points each...so good for them.

Dan has a positive attitude.

There are still alot of big names out there who are off too a slow start. Ovi has decided to let everyone else on the Caps score. The big 3 in Anaheim are starting to show signs of life after forgetting which net they were shooting on.  Mark Recchi has been all but non-exsistent this season...but I'm sure he'll bounce back -remember he had 107 points just eighteen years ago.

Anyway, hope everyone's teams do well this week, but just fall short of my point totals.

Adios.

Week Wrap Up

I'm going to try to keep updating this blog (unlike last year), and it will mainly just be my thoughts and observations from the week....and most likely it will only be me reading it....regardless, I will try to maintain some consistancy.

First week excitement, hopefully everyone has started to figure out how the scoring works and is somewhat happy with their teams.  It's a long season and you can get alot of points in one night, so don't worry if you're off to a slow start. You can always make three trades.

Big night from Bob on Saturday, jumping from 3rd to 1st with 62 points. He's pretty obsessed with the +/-, (it's a factor) but Gionta and Pacioretty really helped him out.

Ted led the pool for most of the week, myself in second spot.  I'm not gonna say there were heated arguments at work, but if anyone asks, Ted fell down the stairs.

Paul was the only person to take Phil Kessel, and as much as I live and die for the Leafs....I don't know how much longer his pace can go on.  8 points in three games -he's on pace for well over 200 (Gretzky territory). I just finished a NHL12 season where Kessel scored 90 goals....so, what does that mean?  I'll take a great Maple Leaf performace instead of winning this pool, so go Kessel!

I was cursing myself all night Saturday night when I thought I didn't take Ryan Ted Nugent-Hopkins. Fuckin' hat trick....luckily I did take him.

Other big suprises, Joffrey Lupul (benefiting from Kessel), Legwand (for a team with no offense), and lower box selection Brian Bickell.

Dissapointments, Ovechkin, Stamkos, Iginla, Nash, and Crosby (dude can't even take a hit?)...but it's a long season and they should start producing soon.

All in all, its a week full of mystery, excitment and wonder as to when the former Thrashers will win their first game.

Thanks for playing.

Pool Scoring & Introductions

Hey Everyone,

The hockey season has started, and that means that so has the hockey pool.  Put on your seat belt....because it's the law! And the season may also be exciting.

ALL OF THIS INFO WILL BE POSTED ON THE BLOG very soon.

Pool Website: This is the website where you get all the "stats," "scores," and "info."  It is updated every morning at 4am, which is convenient if you don't sleep much (Damn western conference!!!).  The pool name is: TheLegendOfAdamBanks, if you don't know who Adam Banks is then I suggest you do your research on Emilio Estevez's post 1980's career.  The password is: district5If you don't know what district5 is then I suggest you converse with Lane Smith regarding Minneapolis neighborhoods.

HOCKEY POOL BLOG:  I will post pool updates, trades, info, PDF files,  and all the complicated stats that only I care about on the blog.  To be safe, check it at least three times a day -I may have had a day off and not given in to playing 15-20 games of NHL12 and had time to think about hockey.

Rules: See my last e-mail........................
. Seriously...I don't feel like typing all that again....trades...etc

Assume my name is Black Dynamite, and if you don't have your money in soon I will declare war on you and your community!

Now, a little introduction to the teams:

H,E, Double Hockey Sticks
, is Adam. He is my brother's wife's brother...also bald.  Adam describes himself as not being much of a hockey fan, but just a gambling man.  Adam has a house, a car, and a wife -Adam is also a fisherman...good at outdoor stuff...good at burning down homeless people's houses.

Kubathequick-e-mart
, is Jason. I know Jason because I work with him.  He is always ready to stay late so Ted and I can argue about minute details of hockey pools.  Jason is good with the computers and could probably run this pool better, but Jason also likes losing hockey pools....just kidding Jason, you only came in 5th last last year.

Injured Reserve,  Is Dan, and it's the name that Bob and I came up with because Dan didn't give us a team name. If Dan wants to change his team name he should let me know before too long.  Dan is from Thunder Bay...which means that he may or may not know several NHL super-stars...like Alex Auld.  Dan drinks Crystal

T.J. Beattie, is Todd. He is my brother. He decided to use his initials as a homage to either TJ Galiardi, TJ Oshie, TJ Hensick or TJ Hooker....I forgot. Todd once got into a fight with Mike Johnson from NHL ON THE FLY...it doesn't matter who won.

Well I'll Try This Again, is Darren.  Darren likes the Penguins...so of course he took Jagr. Darren, I hope you do better this season.

City Guy, is Paul. Ted and I use to work with Paul...but now we don't. The shortest team in the pool this season, Paul, stay out of the deep end. Ted can't swim so keep an eye on him too.

ZdenoChara&the(dirty)Stanchions, is Bob. He is going against his normal strategy of picking mainly Montreal players, Bob is the person I converse with regarding rules, strategies, ways to stop Ted, and the rock music of Queen.  Bob has a Jeep (he asked me to tell everyone).

TED's TEAM!!!!, is named after Ted.  The exclamation points are for intimidation...all four.  Ted was shocked to find that so many people took Stamkos this season especially after a certain person spent all last year badmouthing him -surprise!  Ted is Macedonian....he claims to have a Ferrari.

2ndStg.CodyHodgsonDisese, is the projected champion of this year's pool.  He is a former pole vault champion, kung-fu master, smarter than most people, and an all-around exceptional human being. How do I know? Because he is me, Tyler B. (I know it's a terrible sounding name...sorry)

Good luck everyone, and please let me know if you have any questions or comments,

IMPORTANT -Trading in the Pool

Hey everyone,

Had a heated conversation with Ted yesterday at work.  He wanted to add trades to the pool.  I said it would make things more complicated.  He said I was being selfish and trying to cheat. I agreed.  Eventually I said I would be open to it on some conditions. Here is that story.

I created a diagram of the selection sheet to make things seem more professional:

Ted gave his stubborn opinion on why we needed trades:

I argued my side of the matter:

Ted started yelling and throwing punches. We called in Jason to explain it to him.

Jason didn't understand it.

Nor did he care all that much.

Eventually after filing a workplace incident report we came to a conclusion.

TRADE RULES:
-Sidney Crosby was a big part of the thinking behind these changes-so I will call it the Primeau rule.
- I have eliminated the "free-trade" rule, because I'm tired of Mexican's stealing good Canadian hockey pool jobs.
-There will be NO TRADES ALLOWED within the first 30 days of the season.  NO TRADES until NOVEMBER 6th.
-Trades will cost money. That money will be put into the pot and given to the winner of the pool -so if you are making a trade it better help your cause to win.
-Trades will cost $10 for the premium boxes (first box of each conference, first box of defence, starting goaltenders), every other box will cost $5. Please see the attached files below for more details (Hint: each box has a dollar value above it).
-You can only make THREE (3) trades total. NOT three in the east and three in the west, THREE TOTAL.
-Trades can only be made between November 6th and the NHL ALL-STAR game (I don't know the date of that yet...late January).
-Once you have made a trade in one box (example: Alfredsson for Weiss) that box becomes dead to you, and you CANNOT make another of your trades in that box (example: Weiss can't later be traded for Ovechkin). If you don't know what a box is then you shouldn't being worried about confusing trades.
-If you don't want to make a trade you don't have to.  Pick your team wisely and you should be fine.

Sorry, for the delay on this rule, but you've still got a few days before the deadline.  If you have any questions please let me know BEFORE Sunday.

Thanks,
-Tyler B.
